The NEPA Miners Football and Entertainment Team hopes you will join us this Saturday, June 21st at our home field, Scranton Memorial Stadium to raise money for cancer awareness in Lackawanna County. The NEPA Miners are sponsoring a team for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life and will be camping out from 9am Saturday until 9am Sunday. There will be all sorts of entertainment, games and fun including NEPA Miners players, coaches, Miners Girls and game night entertainer Buttons the Clown. Cancer has touched most of our lives and this event will honor those we have lost and cancer survivors who give hope against this disease. The NEPA Miners are launching there biggest fundraiser of the year and are looking for all of our fans from the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area all the way to New York to get their very own NEPA Miners Club Discount Card. Ron "Sebas" Sebastianelli will be taking the 2008 season off! Anyone close to him knows that saying something like that about Ron is about as shocking as it gets, but let us fill you in on why....   Ron joined the United States Army in 2004 and is currently deployed with the 744th MP BN to Baghdad, Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. He will return to the states sometime in the beginning of 2009.   Ron has always found time for football throughout his military career and other deployments. In recent years he has played with the W-B Blaze, and Susquehanna Valley Stallions, where he earned a Defensive End All-Star Selection for the 2007 season. He played for the NEPA Miners as Right Tackle and Center for their initial season and will come back looking to reclaim his positions next season. According to Ron this is "just a long season off for me".   When not traveling with the military, he resides in Pittston with his wife, Michelle and children, Brandon, Sarah, and Lauren. The NEPA Miners Football and Entertainment Team are excited to announce their partnership with the Mall at Steamtown as we are proud to be Scranton’s Hometown Team! The NEPA Miners would like to congratulate Lackawanna College Head Coach Mark Duda on recently being inducted into the PA State Hall of Fame. Miners Head Coach Dan LaMagna is shown in the picture with Coach Duda at Genetti’s in Wilkes-Barre for the Hall of Fame Dinner. The NEPA Miners have many former Falcon football players which include Future Minor League Hall of Famer RB Donnie Jackson-Bey, RB’s Andre Chollette and Rasheed Nelson, LB Lati Woodruff and Rookie DT Eyad Elbattah. Coach Mark Duda has been a member of the football staff at Lackawanna College since the introduction of the sport in 1993. After one season as defensive coordinator, Duda moved up to head coach and in those twelve years has compiled a 92-37 record while elevating the program to a position of national prominence. In this tenure at the college he has produced over 150 Division 1 Scholarship Athletes. Under his guidance, Lackawanna has appeared in five bowl games and has been ranked nationally in recent years, highlighted by a No. 5 ranking at the end of the 2001 regular-season when Coach LaMagna was a member of the staff. Charlie’s Web Site will help share his amazing story on a national level as the Miners expect to see a book written on Charlie’s life and hopefully even a movie some day. Coach Charlie Wysocki is entering his fourth year as part of Coach LaMagna’s coaching staff and currently resides in Carbondale. Charlie was an All-State football player and wrestler at Wilkes-Barre Myers before attending the University of Maryland and becoming there second all-time leading rusher. Charlie had a serious ankle injury his senior year which dropped his stock on draft day. Charlie would receive several free agent offers before accepting a free agent invite with the Dallas Cowboys. During his time in camp with the Cowboys Charlie spoke with legendary Head Coach Tom Landry about not feeling well. This would be the end of his football career as Charlie was stricken with bipolar disorder. The NEPA Miners Sports & Entertainment team is taking its show to Wilkes-Barre this Friday as they support the Plains Lions Club for their annual carnival and festivities. The NEPA Miners are gearing up for their Anthracite Classic Showdown June 28th at Scranton Memorial Stadium but are calling a time out to entertain their fans. Miners players will be giving out autographed game programs from their inaugural season. The NEPA Miners Football and Entertainment Organization is warming up as the teams season opener is only months away! The Miners are spreading the word around Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and different parts of Northeastern Pennsylvania as they prepare to pre-sell season and individual game tickets. Tickets are already available for purchase on the Miners web site and will be available in the Mall at Steamtown in Scranton in the upcoming weeks (check back daily for updates).
