The 4th of July holiday was a welcome break for all but now the NEPA Miners have to refocus and build on their pre-season win as they gear up for their RAFL debut. The Miners won last weekends rivalry game versus the Schuylkill County Coal Crackers 14-6, keeping the Coal Miners Trophy in Scranton for another year. The Miners Coaching Staff is emphasizing the need to take care of responsibilities as the team’s goals for 2008 are lofty and they feel like the team has something to prove after an early exit in the 2008 playoffs. The Miners roster looks stronger on paper than a year ago as many new faces are competing with team veterans. Coach LaMagna has a tough decision to make this week as the team is over its league roster limit and some players will be inactive for the first game. “The importance of practice and communication is not only critical for our team’s success, but also for the playing time of Miners players,” stated Coach LaMagna. SCRANTON – Damon Saxon provided all the offense the NEPA Miners needed on Saturday, rushing for 127 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries in a 14-6 win over the Schuylkill County Coal Crackers in the second Annual Anthracite Classic.
NEPA (1-0) quarterback J.P. Antosh went 5-for-15 with 80 yards, hitting wide receiver George Graham for a 48-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter for his only score of the game.

Ron "Sebas" Sebastianelli will be taking the 2008 season off! Anyone close to him knows that saying something like that about Ron is about as shocking as it gets, but let us fill you in on why....
 Ron joined the United States Army in 2004 and is currently deployed with the 744th MP BN to Baghdad, Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. He will return to the states sometime in the beginning of 2009.
 Ron has always found time for football throughout his military career and other deployments. In recent years he has played with the W-B Blaze, and Susquehanna Valley Stallions, where he earned a Defensive End All-Star Selection for the 2007 season. He played for the NEPA Miners as Right Tackle and Center for their initial season and will come back looking to reclaim his positions next season. According to Ron this is "just a long season off for me".

The NEPA Miners would like to congratulate Lackawanna College Head Coach Mark Duda on recently being inducted into the PA State Hall of Fame. Miners Head Coach Dan LaMagna is shown in the picture with Coach Duda at Genetti’s in Wilkes-Barre for the Hall of Fame Dinner. The NEPA Miners have many former Falcon football players which include Future Minor League Hall of Famer RB Donnie Jackson-Bey, RB’s Andre Chollette and Rasheed Nelson, LB Lati Woodruff and Rookie DT Eyad Elbattah. Coach Mark Duda has been a member of the football staff at Lackawanna College since the introduction of the sport in 1993.
After one season as defensive coordinator, Duda moved up to head coach and in those twelve years has compiled a 92-37 record while elevating the program to a position of national prominence. In this tenure at the college he has produced over 150 Division 1 Scholarship Athletes.
Under his guidance, Lackawanna has appeared in five bowl games and has been ranked nationally in recent years, highlighted by a No. 5 ranking at the end of the 2001 regular-season when Coach LaMagna was a member of the staff.
