Miners mini-helmet featured on NBC’s ‘The Office’ season premiere
According to the NEPA Miners football team, a Miners miniature football helmet was used as a prop on NBC’s TV show “The Office” which is based on the Scranton area. NEPA Miners team President and Head Coach Daniel LaMagna said that 23 minutes into the 2008 season premiere on Thursday, Sept. 25, , he noticed the mini-helmet featured on desk of the show’s character Kevin, in a scene where characters Andy and Angela were near the desk.
The North East Pennsylvania (NEPA) Miners is a minor league football team that participates in the Regional Atlantic Football League (RAFL), representing all of northeast Pennsylvania. According to their Web site, www.nepaminers.com, their basis of operations is the Pocono area, encompassing the areas of Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. The Miners play home games at Scranton Memorial Stadium and are led by LaMagna and supported by Charlie Wysocki, a Wilkes-Barre native and former football player.
LaMagna said that during the off-season, he had dropped off the miniature football helmet, along with game programs, T-shirts and hats, at a Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce prop collection for “The Office.” The Scranton Chamber has hosted several collections of business props to send to “The Office” creators. This season, according to the Miners, the team, “scored big and made the season premiere.”
According to their Web site, the Miners are on pace for the best season in their young team’s history after a victory on the road versus the New Jersey Wolves. October 4 will be the Miners final regular season home game at Scranton Memorial Stadium.
