Jackson-Bey sets rushing recordArticle published 7/15/2007, The Citizens Voice LEHMAN TOWNSHIP — Donnie Jackson-Bey broke the semipro football record for career rushing yards and ran for three touchdowns as the Northeast Pennsylvania Miners registered a 37-0 victory over the Hudson County Stars on Saturday in a North American Football League game at Edward Edwards Stadium. Jackson-Bey, an 11-year veteran, finished the game with 134 yards on 27 carries, giving him a career total of 15,302 yards, one more than the total compiled by former Scranton Eagle standout Frank Yanik. While the offense did its job by scoring five touchdowns, the Miners’ defense shortened the field by creating six turnovers, picking off four passes and recovering two fumbles. It was the Miners’ special teams that opened the scoring when by blocking a Hudson County punt late in the first quarter for a safety. Former King’s College back Damon Saxon raced 42 yards for the Miners’ first touchdown, with 11:50 left in the first half. Jon VItovsky made the first of his five successful extra-point kicks to make it 9-0. Jackson-Bey scored on a 1-yard run with 8:29 left in the first half and the Miners held that 16-point lead at halftime. ![]()
