Miners Defense Dominates as Team Sets Franchise Record
The NEPA Miners have strung together three straight impressive wins anchored by a tenacious defense, a well balanced offense and improving special teams. The Miners won this past weekend 48-11 versus the Hudson Valley Cowboys. The Cowboys started off the game with a field goal to gain the momentum early but that was short lived as P.J. Piskorick would take the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a 7-3 Miners lead. The Miners Defense would shut the Cowboys down for the next three quarters led by a six tackle two sack performance by Eyad Elbattah along with sacks and constant pressure from Malcolm Singleton, Mike Collins and Roy Glenn Jr. The Offense would get their turn in the second quarter as the Offensive line protected J.P. Antosh as he threw scoring strikes to receivers Montell Knauls, Matt Pfancook and Jeremy Kendrick. Miners Linebacker Mike McGee also intercepted a Cowboys pass for a 25 yard touchdown to give the Miners a 35-3 lead at the half. The Miners did not lose a beat in the second half as the offense scored on the opening drive of the third quarter as J.P. Antosh connected with running back Andre Chollete for his fourth touchdown of the afternoon. Miners linebacker Donnie Jackson-Bey would put it away in the third quarter with a 45 yard interception return for a touchdown. Kicker Trevor Young was good on six of seven extra point attempts as the NEPA Miners scored 48 points to set a team record in their young two year history. The Cowboys would get a late score at home but the final score was 48-11 in the favor of our hometown team. The NEPA Miners (5-1-1 / 4-1-1 RAFL) will return home this weekend after spending the last two weeks on the road.
