Miners Look To Rebound

The Minor League Football game of the week lived up to its expectations as the NEPA Miners battled the Brooklyn Mariner’s to the end. Brooklyn is one of minor league footballs all-time winning teams with close to 500 career wins and less than 100 defeats. Our hometown team struck first as Quarterback J.P. Antosh led the Miners downfield and threw a touchdown to Wide Receiver Matt Pfancook to give the Miners a 7-0 lead. The Mariners would score passing touchdowns in the second and fourth quarters to take a 12-7 lead that they would not relinquish. The Miners Defense fought hard led by seven tackles from Eyad Albattah and six by Donnie Jackson-Bey. Malcolm Singleton, Brandon Short and Kyle Popish also put pressure on the Mariners throughout the game. Jamie Kendrick and Kenneth Brooks had an interception each. The Offense appears close to breaking out as J.P. Antosh threw for 216 yards and the Miners gained 100 yards on the ground led by Andre Chollette who had 44 yards on nine carries. Miners leading rusher Damon Saxon was out with an injury. The Miners had opportunities as Donnie Jackson-Bey was stopped at the one yard line on a run play that looked liked he had scored. The Miners (2-1-1) will look to rebound this Saturday at home versus the New Jersey Warriors, 7pm at Scranton Memorial Stadium. Tickets for the game can be purchased at the Mall at Steamtown or online at www.nepaminers.com. The Latin Cultural Diversity Center led by Pedro Gonzalez will be on hand to entertain the fans at half time. The Miners Girls Entertainment Team, Buttons the Clown and the voice of the SWB Yankees John Davies will also be on hand. Come out and support your hometown team, Go Miners!
