The North East PA Miners are one win away from locking down a playoff birth in their first ever season. The Miners are looking to give our area fans another winner this Sunday. With a win, the Miners will join the Pioneers, Yankees and Penguins as the fourth area team to make the post season. The Miners are not a house hold name like the Yankees and Penguins and are not as established as the Pioneers. But one thing they have in common is that they are winners and provide a family night of fun. With a win versus the Lancaster Lightning who is in last place in the PA Division but looking to play the role of spoiler, the Miners will have completed an 8-3 inaugural season. The Miners are coming off a huge 8-6 win on the road versus a New York Panthers team who was 5-3 and also fighting to get into the playoffs. The NEPA Miners pride themselves in playing in the North American Football League in which the top 64 teams in the nation will compete to create a true minor league champion on November 10th in Las Vegas.
“Once you are in the tournament, every team is 0-0 and has a chance to be the champion. We lost a couple close ones but have been in every game this year and we like our odds, said Head Coach Dan LaMagna.” The Miners have been lead by a strong defense with Malcolm Singleton who has 15½ sacks this season. Donnie Jackson-Bey and Damon Saxon lead an offense that has battled injuries all season. The Miners are also looking to expand on the entertainment and business end. This next game will feature the singing of an up and coming band, “Shoot the Moon” who will perform at half time and sing the National Anthem while Buttons the Clown will entertain the kids before the game! The Miners are also seeking additional business partners to expand operations for 2008.
